The Sony ULT Tower 7 is the better-sounding, longer-running choice. A big, loud party speaker on wheels with punchy bass, a 30 hour battery, 360 degree sound and inputs for mics and instruments. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 13 for the Sharp PS-929. It is rated IPX4, while the Sharp PS-929 has no water resistance. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Sharp PS-929 lacks. The catch: The reviewer notes that Auracast pairing is not backward-compatible with Sony’s older Party Connect speakers, and the hard-plastic corners lack protective rubber bumpers.
The Sharp PS-929 is the lighter pick. A battery party speaker with two woofers, a Super Bass button, lights, mic and guitar inputs, and a wired mic included. At 19 lbs (8.6 kg) it weighs much less than the Sony ULT Tower 7 at 50.3 lbs (22.8 kg). The tradeoff: Bass extension is only about 60Hz at -10dB, so it lacks deep bass.
Buy the Sony ULT Tower 7. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the Sharp PS-929 is discontinued, so it is only available used.
