The Sony ULT Tower 7 is the better-sounding, longer-running option. A big, loud party speaker on wheels with punchy bass, a 30 hour battery, 360 degree sound and inputs for mics and instruments. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 18 for the Samsung MX-ST50B. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Samsung MX-ST50B lacks. The tradeoff: The reviewer notes that Auracast pairing is not backward-compatible with Sony’s older Party Connect speakers, and the hard-plastic corners lack protective rubber bumpers.
The Samsung MX-ST50B is the lighter option. A splash resistant party tower with two woofers, karaoke input, app EQ, and linking for up to ten speakers. At 26.2 lbs (11.9 kg) it weighs much less than the Sony ULT Tower 7 at 50.3 lbs (22.8 kg). The catch: Output drops sharply to 90W on battery, so it needs mains power for its full impact.
Buy the Sony ULT Tower 7. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Samsung MX-ST50B is discontinued.
