The Sony SRS-XE300’s replacement, the Sony ULT Field 3, is rated 3.4/5 at $208.
The Sony ULT Field 1 is the better-sounding, lighter choice. IP67 rated, survives drops and 1m submersion. At 1.4 lbs (650 g) it weighs much less than the Sony SRS-XE300 at 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg). The tradeoff: Upper midrange peak, rolled off treble.
The Sony SRS-XE300 is the longer-running choice. Orientation-aware playback switches to stereo when laid flat. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 12 for the Sony ULT Field 1. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Sony ULT Field 1 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Sony ULT Field 1. The catch: Muffled sounding, not very deep bass.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 1. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Sony SRS-XE300 is discontinued.
