Short answer: the ULT Field 5, and it costs less too. It ranks #55 of 78 large speakers against the XG300’s #41, and it is $21 cheaper.
Neither speaker is a standout for sound quality, but the XG300 has more going against it. Our notes on the ULT Field 5 call it just okay overall, with bass not as deep as others in its class. The XG300’s notes are harsher: an overly expensive price for what it delivers, a peak in the upper mids, a hollow character, rolled-off treble, and a lack of clarity. The XG300’s notes also flag that it will automatically turn itself down and won’t hold max volume.
Both are IP67 rated for dust and water, and both support Sony’s Party Connect for linking up to 100 speakers. The ULT Field 5 adds a real advantage on the software side: a 10-band EQ through Sony’s app and support for the AAC and LDAC codecs, while the XG300 is limited to SBC and has no companion app at all.
The XG300 wins on a few physical points. It is lighter (6.6 lbs versus 7.3 lbs), has a retractable carry handle, and our notes credit it with a big, boomy, party-friendly sound and fast charging that gets 70 minutes of playback from 10 minutes on the charger.
Buy the ULT Field 5. It costs less, sounds more balanced according to our notes, and adds app-based EQ and better Bluetooth codec support.
Buy the XG300 only if the retractable handle or the bigger, bassier party sound matters more to you than price or refinement.

Fast-charging: 10 minutes gives 70 minutes playback. Stamina mode optimizes battery. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Overly expensive. Bass not as deep as competitors. Upper mids peak. Hollow sounding. Rolled off treble. Not much clarity. Does not float. Speaker will not remain at max volume and will turn itself down automatically. Discontinued.

Sony ULT Field 5: $198 Amazon eBay
Pros: A tough 3.3kg portable with IP67 protection, LDAC/AAC support, aux input, a 10-band app EQ, Party Connect, USB-C power-bank output and a claimed 25-hour battery. Reviews find it energetic and dynamic with substantial bass, enough volume for a yard, and two ULT modes that let bass-focused listeners choose a deeper or punchier presentation.
Cons: It prioritizes bass and loudness over fidelity: reviews find the upper mids and highs subdued, with limited stereo separation and soundstage depth. Deep bass is less authoritative than the enclosure suggests, and the loud confirmation tone when pressing the ULT button is an unnecessary annoyance. Use the app EQ and audition it before buying for detail-focused music.
