Short answer: the Stormbox Micro 3, and it costs less too. It ranks #33 of 47 small speakers against the XB100’s #6, and it is $3.01 cheaper.
Bass is the dividing line between these two, in different ways. Our notes on the XB100 say it doesn’t have much bass at all, and describe it as basically the same speaker as Sony’s cheaper XB13 with maybe a touch more depth. The Stormbox Micro 3 goes the other direction: our notes say it has deeper bass than its predecessor, but by default that bass is thuddy and distorted, needing an EQ adjustment to sound right. Once corrected, it outranks the XB100 by a wide margin; left untouched, it still has more low end to offer than the XB100 does.
The Stormbox Micro 3 is also the more feature-complete speaker. It includes a companion app with a 9-band EQ, which the XB100 lacks entirely, a higher IP68 rating against the XB100’s IP67, and it doubles as a USB-C power bank. It also runs longer: a rated 24 hours against the XB100’s 16.
The XB100’s real strength is consistency, not sound. Our notes credit it with long real-world battery life around 17 hours in testing, a pocketable IP67-rated body with a clip for bags or gear, and the ability to stereo-pair two units together, something the Stormbox Micro 3’s spec sheet doesn’t list.
Buy the Stormbox Micro 3 for better bass and more features, and be ready to spend a few minutes in the EQ to fix its default tuning.
Buy the XB100 only if you specifically want stereo pairing between two units or prefer Sony’s simpler, no-app approach, and can live with weak bass.

Pros: Long real-world battery life (~17 hours in testing). IP67 rated and pocketable at 267g, with a clip for bags/gear. Can stereo-pair two units.
Cons: Not much bass. Seems pretty much the same as the XB13, maybe a teeny bit deeper bass and a little less muddy.
