Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 vs Sonus Faber Sonetto II

What the Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 does well: The slimmest Sonetto G2 tower, a 2.5-way with the range’s 1.1” DAD Arrow Point tweeter, a 6.5” midwoofer and a 6.5” woofer that adds output only in the bass, which is rated to 38Hz. The catch: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared directly with measured speakers; the rating is estimated from the measured Sonetto II G2, which showed an uneven listening window (a 4.25 Spinorama preference score).

What the Sonus Faber Sonetto II does well: A two-way stand-mount with a 6.5” paper pulp woofer, a 29mm silk dome tweeter and a downward-firing port in Sonus Faber’s curved wood cabinet. The catch: The response is uneven (0.53 on-axis deviation), for a preference score of 3.97 that reaches 5.92 with an ideal subwoofer.

One note: the Sonus Faber Sonetto II is discontinued and no longer widely available new. The Sonus Faber Sonetto II’s replacement, the Sonus Faber Sonetto II G2, is still sold new.

Buy the Sonus Faber Sonetto III G2 at $5,000 for a floorstanding speaker, or the Sonus Faber Sonetto II at $2,500 for a bookshelf speaker instead.
