The Sonos Roam 2 is the better-sounding, lighter option. A small Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker with water resistance, Alexa built in and Sonos multiroom support. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Sony SRS-XB30 at 2.2 lbs (1 kg). It charges over USB-C rather than Micro USB. Watch for: Exact same sound quality as the original Sonos Roam.
The Sony SRS-XB30 is the deeper-bass, longer-running option. A splash resistant Sony speaker with LDAC, a power bank output, a long rated battery and Party Chain linking, now discontinued. Its bass reaches about 55Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the Sonos Roam 2. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 10 for the Sonos Roam 2. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Sonos Roam 2 lacks. The tradeoff: Independent lab listening rates music fidelity only fair: bass has impact but is boomy and lacks the deepest notes, while the midrange can sound hazy, muffled and grainy.
Buy the Sonos Roam 2. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Sony SRS-XB30 is discontinued.
