Polk Audio XT15 vs JBL Studio 530

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Studio 530 for a flatter response, the Polk Audio XT15 for value. The Studio 530’s spinorama shows a fairly flat on-axis response and a very smooth predicted in-room curve apart from high-frequency roll-off, but a peak around 1.4kHz traced to a tweeter resonance shows up as a harmonic-distortion spike, with a second bump around 2kHz. The XT15 stays the budget option, rolling off at 77.6Hz (-3dB) and 54.2Hz (-10dB).

Polk Audio XT15 ranking card

Pros: Very low $179/pair entry price for a Hi-Res Audio Certified 2-way design that’s Dolby Atmos and DTS:X compatible, and works with either 4- or 8-ohm amplifier outputs so it drops into almost any AVR without matching concerns. Off axis sound tracks the on axis response reasonably consistently for the price. Measured bass extension of 77.6Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Bass rolls off early, at 77.6Hz (-3dB) and 54.2Hz (-10dB). On-axis response is relatively uneven, with an average deviation of about 0.45dB, and its listening window is less smooth than pricier speakers. Modest 86dB sensitivity wants a reasonably powered amp channel. The 5.25” bi-laminate paper woofer is Polk’s entry-tier driver, not the polypropylene/Turbine cones used in its pricier Signature Elite/Reserve lines.

JBL Studio 530 ranking card

Pros: CEA2034 spinorama shows a fairly flat on-axis response. Predicted in-room response is very smooth aside from the high-frequency roll-off. Measured bass extension of 73.2Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 85dB.

Cons: A peak around 1.4kHz is attributed to a tweeter resonance, and shows up as a distinct spike in harmonic distortion at that frequency along with a second resonance-driven bump around 2kHz. Response rolls off in the high frequencies and the tuning is a bit bass-shy overall. Cumulative spectral decay (waterfall) shows the same 1kHz-region resonances lingering in time. Discontinued.
