Pioneer DJ VM-50 vs NHT Pro M-00

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the Pioneer DJ VM-50. The NHT Pro M-00 has appealing hardware, a cast aluminum-zinc alloy enclosure that doubles as a heatsink for its discrete Class AB amplifier, RCA and XLR/TRS inputs, and a near-field/far-field voicing switch, but Amir identified a sudden upper-bass suck-out that affects many commonly used notes. The VM-50 is not flat on axis either, but it has no comparable flaw.

Pioneer DJ VM-50 vs NHT Pro M-00

The case for the Pioneer DJ VM-50: Compact active monitor with 96kHz DSP, 4mm aluminum front baffle, 5.25-inch aramid woofer and constant-directivity horn. The tradeoff: The default axial response is not reference-flat and the upper-mid/treble directivity behavior varies with angle; correct EQ-switch selection and listening geometry matter.

Buy the Pioneer DJ VM-50. It is rated higher for sound quality; the NHT Pro M-00 is no longer sold new.

Pros: Erin’s Klippel measurements give scores of 4.64 standalone and 7.00 with an ideal subwoofer, with a -3dB point around 60Hz. The existing review reports low distortion and little sustained compression, supporting practical clean playback beyond what the tonal score alone captures. Separate bass and treble voicings and balanced inputs make adjustment straightforward. Measured bass extension of 61Hz (-3dB).

Cons: The default response spans 3.5dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, and the upper-midrange/treble balance varies with angle. EQ-switch selection and aiming therefore matter. Bass below about 50Hz is reduced, so it is not a full-range substitute for a monitor-and-subwoofer system. Its output evidence supports nearfield use, not unrestricted home-theater levels.

Pros: A sturdy metal enclosure, analog studio/consumer connections and selectable nearfield/farfield voicing give it practical features as an older powered monitor. Measured bass extension of 83.3Hz (-3dB).

Cons: The review identifies a pronounced upper-bass cancellation, treble peaks and problematic vertical response, and strongly prefers the JBL 305P MKII in direct listening. Discontinued.
