Short answer: the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt, if you are buying new. The Revel B8 ranks higher than it (#18 vs #46 of 73 subwoofers, 3.6/5 vs 3.2/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt is still sold new at $224.99.
Why pick the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt: A low cost ported 8 inch subwoofer with a 200 watt amp, an easy entry point for a first subwoofer. The tradeoff: Very compact 18.5 lbs (8.4 kg) size, limited 106.4 dB output, ported room interaction, and entry-level build.
The Revel B8 is the better-sounding option. A discontinued compact sealed 8 inch subwoofer that adds upper bass support to a modest room. Watch for: Deep-bass output is limited relative to its midbass result, so it is not the right choice for the lowest movie effects.
Buy the Monoprice Premium Select 8in 200-Watt, since the Revel B8 is discontinued and only worth hunting down used.
