Short answer: the Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20, though neither ranks well in its class. It ranks #82 of 111 boombox speakers by sound quality, rated 2.6/5, at $299; the Turtlebox Gen 3 ranks #103, rated 2.1/5, and costs $430, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff. Both are rated below 3.0/5 among the 111 boombox speakers, so if sound quality matters, consider the Tribit Stormbox Blast instead, ranked #2 at $179.99.
The Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20 is the better-sounding option. WorkshopAddict compared it directly with the Milwaukee M18 PACKOUT Radio 2950-20 and found it better in every way, with fuller bass and clearer voices, and other reviewers called it loud with heavy bass for a jobsite radio. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Turtlebox Gen 3 lacks. Watch for: Its bass is nowhere near as deep as top ranked boomboxes like the Tribit Stormbox Blast and Harman Kardon Go + Play 3, which reach down to about 43 Hz and 35 Hz.
The Turtlebox Gen 3 is the longer-running, lighter choice. Waterproof (IP67, and it floats) and crushproof, with stainless steel hardware and quality amplifier parts inside. It is rated for 25 hours of battery against 8 for the Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20. At 10 lbs (4.54 kg) it weighs much less than the Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20 at 17.9 lbs (8.1 kg). It is rated IP67 against IP65 for the Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20. The tradeoff: Sounds basically identical to the original and the Turtlebox Gen 2: each generation mainly added features, not sound quality.
Buy the Milwaukee M18 Bluetooth Jobsite Radio 2956-20. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Turtlebox Gen 3 and costs less, so it is the default pick unless a specific strength of the other one matters more to you.
