Short answer: the Neumi BS5P-ARC, if you are buying new. The M-Audio BX5 D3 ranks higher than it (#42 vs #51 of 108 powered bookshelf speakers, 3.9/5 vs 3.8/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Neumi BS5P-ARC is still sold new at $219.99.
What the M-Audio BX5 D3 does well: A budget studio monitor with balanced inputs and room adjustment for a basic home studio. Watch for: The response slopes downward by about 0.65dB per octave, potentially softening treble relative to the midrange.
Why pick the Neumi BS5P-ARC: An inexpensive powered pair with HDMI ARC, an easy way to upgrade TV sound with stereo speakers. Watch for: Bass is thin: response is down 3dB at about 113Hz and 6dB at about 83Hz, which pulls the standalone score down to 3.84, so plan on adding a subwoofer for movies and music.
Buy the Neumi BS5P-ARC new; the M-Audio BX5 D3 is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
