Short answer: the JBL 705P, because its directivity is a class above the Rokit for more money. At $1,998 against $337, its CEA2034 spinorama shows flat response with excellent directivity, though a cancellation around 750Hz that is likely port-related and a bit of boost at the 1.75kHz crossover show up on-axis. The Rokit 5 G4 goes deeper than the HS5, but it is not quite as detailed and not as good for mixing.
Buy the JBL 705P. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the KRK Rokit 5 G4 is discontinued.

Newer model: the KRK Rokit 5 G5. It’s likely to perform similarly, though we don’t have measurements to confirm that yet.
Pros: ASR’s data gives -3dB bass around 56Hz and scores of 3.92 standalone and 6.29 with an ideal subwoofer. The waveguide provides useful horizontal directivity control, while onboard adjustments help tailor broad balance. The existing review reports low distortion at 86dB and low audible hiss. Measured bass extension of 55.7Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The 3.6dB midrange span and listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.502 show that native response is not reference-flat. A port-region resonance and other tonal irregularities remain. Its deeper bass does not establish greater detail or mixing accuracy than another monitor. EQ can help, but the unequalized measurements determine the starting recommendation. Discontinued.

Its waveguided compression driver and dedicated amplification are suited to studio use, and the broad response trend is close to level. It has useful low-frequency reach for a five-inch monitor. Measured bass extension of 47.6Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The standalone score is 4.70, and a localized cancellation near 750Hz contributes to the large 7.8dB midrange response span. A crossover-region rise also prevents reference-flat reproduction. An average flat trend does not erase these features, and amplifier wattage is not a measured clean-SPL rating. The data does not support calling it uniformly flat simply because it shares technology with larger JBL models.
