The JBL’s High-Definition Imaging horn and 1” compression driver give excellent high-frequency directivity control, but a prominent mid-bass bump around 80Hz can sound thick or chesty in smaller rooms without DSP EQ. The KEF’s 5” Uni-Q array controls directivity to about +/-50 degrees, though its F3 of 52Hz and F10 of 38Hz want a subwoofer.
Buy the JBL Studio 698 new; the KEF R5 Meta is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.

Measured bass extension of 52Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 86dB.
Cons: Low-frequency extension (F3 of 52Hz, F10 of 38Hz) requires pairing with a dedicated subwoofer crossed over at 80Hz for high-output home theater or bass-heavy music performance.
