KEF LS50 Wireless II vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Short answer: the KEF LS50 Wireless II for off-axis consistency, the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM for nearfield work. The LS50 Wireless II’s Uni-Q array gives excellent, consistent off-axis dispersion. The iLoud MTM is a compact powered MTM with two 3.5-inch midwoofers and a 1-inch tweeter, 100W per speaker and great linearity for mixing or mastering, though its native treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis and the back-panel -3dB switch is too aggressive.

KEF LS50 Wireless II vs IK Multimedia iLoud MTM

The case for the KEF LS50 Wireless II: Uni-Q coincident driver array (130mm aluminum woofer with a 25mm MAT dome tweeter mounted at its acoustic center) gives excellent, consistent off-axis dispersion, measuring the tightest directivity spread of this batch alongside a smooth listening-window response. The tradeoff: Primary/Secondary architecture means one speaker handles every input while the other depends on a wireless or wired Ethernet link back to it - placement is less flexible than a fully symmetric pair.

KEF LS50 Wireless II ranking card

Pros: Erin’s measurements give preference scores of 5.43 standalone and 7.51 with an ideal subwoofer, with a -3dB point around 51Hz. The coincident Uni-Q layout helps preserve tonal consistency across horizontal and vertical listening positions. Low listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.308 supports relatively clean midrange reproduction. HDMI eARC and streaming functions make it a capable all-in-one stereo system. Measured bass extension of 51.3Hz (-3dB).

Cons: The 3.0dB response span is good but not reference-leading, and dispersion still varies with frequency. Compact bass drivers limit deep-bass output. App placement adjustments are not the same as microphone-based automatic room correction. The price and primary/secondary architecture are practical trade-offs; neither driver geometry nor a single directivity statistic guarantees the best sound in every room.

IK Multimedia iLoud MTM ranking card

Newer model: the IK Multimedia iLoud MTM MKII, ranked higher, rated 4.2/5.

Pros: ASR’s measurements of the original MTM give scores of 4.07 standalone and 6.26 with an ideal subwoofer, a 2.4dB midrange response span and a -3dB point around 53Hz. The small cabinet, balanced input and calibration capability make it useful for close listening where larger monitors would be impractical. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-3dB).

Cons: The MTM arrangement makes listening height and orientation important, while bass below the low-50Hz region still needs support. The native response is not as smooth as the best compact reference monitors. Exact compression ceilings and correction examples from the MKII review should not be assigned to this original version; its score describes tonal response, not maximum clean volume. Treble runs about 3dB hot on-axis; the reviewer found the rear -3dB switch too aggressive and preferred about -1.5dB of external EQ. Discontinued.
