JBL Xtreme 5 vs Soundcore Boom 2 Pro

Last updated: October 11, 2026

These sit in different size classes, so this is not a straight ranking comparison. The JBL Xtreme 5 ranks #2 of 105 large speakers by sound quality at $399.95; the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro ranks #38 of 98 boombox speakers by sound quality at $139.99.

JBL Xtreme 5 vs Soundcore Boom 2 Pro

The JBL Xtreme 5 is the longer-running, lighter pick. Removable battery. It is rated for 28 hours of battery against 20 for the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro. At 6.4 lbs (2.9 kg) it weighs noticeably less than the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro at 8.4 lbs (3.8 kg). Watch for: High priced.

Why pick the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro: A tougher version of the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus with IP68 dust and water protection instead of IPX7, a metal front grille, and a body that floats. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Xtreme 5 lacks. The tradeoff: No side-by-side sound comparisons yet, so its rating is estimated from the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus, which shares its drivers and amplifier.

Buy the JBL Xtreme 5 at $399.95 if you want a large speaker. Buy the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro at $139.99 if you want a boombox speaker instead.

Worth knowing: the Soundcore Boom 2 Pro has not been measured yet. Its rating is estimated from related models, with a likely range of 3.4 to 3.8, so treat this verdict as provisional.

Older models: the JBL Xtreme 3 (ranked lower, rated 4.3/5), the JBL Xtreme 4 (ranked lower, rated 3.8/5), the JBL Xtreme 2 (ranked lower, rated 3.4/5) and the JBL Xtreme (ranked lower, rated 3.2/5). See every JBL Xtreme generation.

Pros: Removable battery. Quite deep bass, reaching well below 40Hz. A fantastic sounding speaker with excellent off-axis dispersion, a big step up from older JBL portables. Beats the Soundcore Boom 2 and Tribit Stormbox Blast on bass depth and clarity. Plays clean at volume, unlike the JBL Boombox 4.

Cons: High priced. Some bass boost. A hole in the mid-upper bass which can’t be EQ’d out. Default EQ presets are weak (Signature is boring, Chill and Vocal are close to unusable): needs the custom EQ to sound its best. Bigger and heavier than the JBL Xtreme 4.

Setup: Try this Oluv EQ for the most neutral sound

Soundcore Boom 2 Pro ranking card

Pros: A tougher version of the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus with IP68 dust and water protection instead of IPX7, a metal front grille, and a body that floats. Inside it is the same 140W design with two woofers and two tweeters for real stereo, plenty of bass with BassUp, a 9 band app EQ, aux input, a detachable shoulder strap, a 10W USB-C power bank and PartyCast for linking more speakers.

Cons: No side-by-side sound comparisons yet, so its rating is estimated from the Soundcore Boom 2 Plus, which shares its drivers and amplifier. That means the same warm stock tuning with upper bass boost and a dip from the upper mids into the treble that dulls vocals, and owners say it needs EQ. Reviewers found it loses fullness and gets a bit fatiguing at its very highest volume.
