Short answer: the Sonos Move 2 for better sound quality, the JBL Xtreme 2 for the lower price. The Sonos Move 2 ranks #25 of 77 large speakers at $399. The JBL Xtreme 2 ranks #44 at $149.99, $249.01 cheaper.
What the JBL Xtreme 2 offers: Four drivers with refined bass balance, closer to studio monitors than typical portables. Set against that: External AC power brick for charging.
The case for the Sonos Move 2: Warm sounding with somewhat rolled off treble. The catch: Not very loud. This may have some of the same issues at full volume that the Move 1 had too, but I’ll need more sound samples at full volume to verify.
One note: the JBL Xtreme 2 is discontinued, but it still ranks #44 of 77 large speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.
Buy the JBL Xtreme 2 if the price matters more than sound quality. Buy the Sonos Move 2 if sound quality matters more than the price.
If battery life is a priority, the Sonos Move 2 is rated for 24 hours versus 15 hours for the JBL Xtreme 2.
