JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus vs Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus. It ranks #5 of 91 boombox speakers by sound quality, rated 4.4/5, at $349.95; the Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra ranks #11, rated 4.2/5, and costs $388, so there is little reason to consider the other one.

JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus vs Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra

The JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus is the lighter choice. Well balanced with strong vocals, and its front-firing bass ports give it cleaner, smoother bass than other PartyBoxes, so even the Punchy bass boost setting never overpowers the vocals. At 14.2 lbs (6.45 kg) it weighs much less than the Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra at 24.3 lbs (11 kg). It links with other speakers (Auracast), which the Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra cannot. The tradeoff: The bass has less kick and physical impact than the Encore 2 or PartyBox Club 120, and the Club 120 gets noticeably louder.

The Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra is the longer-running, tougher option. By far the loudest boombox tested against it, hitting 106-107dB, roughly 3-5dB louder than the JBL Boombox 4, Zealot ZE41, Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, W-King X20, and Hopestar A90/A95. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 15 for the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus. It is rated IPX6 against IPX4 for the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus. The catch: The 500W peak-power rating doesn’t fully hold up: it gets noisy above roughly 80-90% volume, and the midrange isn’t fully refined, sometimes sitting a touch too forward.

Buy the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.

JBL PartyBox On-The-Go 2 Plus ranking card

Older model: the JBL Partybox On the Go (ranked lower, rated 3/5).

Pros: Well balanced with strong vocals, and its front-firing bass ports give it cleaner, smoother bass than other PartyBoxes, so even the Punchy bass boost setting never overpowers the vocals. It gets a touch louder than the PartyBox Encore 2. EasySing AI vocal removal strips vocals from any song on the speaker itself, with 25%, 50% or 100% removal, and the included rechargeable wireless mic has a tight pickup pattern that rejects handling noise. A removable 34Wh battery shared with the Encore 2 and PartyBox 120, a claimed 15 hours, a padded shoulder strap, USB-C playback and charging, a 3.5mm aux input, Auracast and a light show.

Cons: The bass has less kick and physical impact than the Encore 2 or PartyBox Club 120, and the Club 120 gets noticeably louder. There is no wired microphone or guitar input, so more mics means buying JBL’s EasySing mics separately, and AI vocal removal is disabled while the speaker is linked to other speakers over Auracast. Real world battery life is closer to 7 hours at 80% volume with lights and bass boost on. IPX4 only covers splashes, the grille dents easily, and the battery must be installed for it to run even when plugged in.

Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra: $388.00 Amazon eBay

Yeahbox Sonic Boom Ultra ranking card

Pros: By far the loudest boombox tested against it, hitting 106-107dB, roughly 3-5dB louder than the JBL Boombox 4, Zealot ZE41, Tribit Stormbox Blast 2, W-King X20, and Hopestar A90/A95. The massive 6x9in racetrack woofer reaches audible bass down to around 30Hz on the Country EQ preset, and a teardown confirmed genuinely robust internals: a thick vented voice coil and a dedicated crossover output per driver. HDMI ARC input/output lets it double as a TV soundbar, a feature none of its direct competitors offer.

Cons: The 500W peak-power rating doesn’t fully hold up: it gets noisy above roughly 80-90% volume, and the midrange isn’t fully refined, sometimes sitting a touch too forward. The custom EQ in the app noticeably reduces bass output compared to the factory presets and doesn’t persist after the speaker powers off. No Auracast, no removable battery, a plastic handle with some flex, and heavy at 11kg (24lb) for $388. Most of the sound-quality coverage comes from enthusiast listening-test comparisons rather than independent measurement.
