The driver sizes actually favor the cheaper speaker. The Onn packs dual 8-inch woofers, while the pricier Club 120 uses smaller 2x 5.25-inch woofers paired with 2x 2.25-inch tweeters. The Club 120’s own pros text describes its sound as “quite neutral” with “deeper bass than the 100 and 110,” so JBL’s tuning and cabinet design close the gap despite the smaller drivers, but on paper the Onn has more woofer surface area for the money.
Where the Club 120 pulls ahead is control and connection quality. It has a 5-band EQ and JBL app support, neither of which the Onn offers, plus Bluetooth 5.4, USB playback, and TWS pairing with a second speaker. The Onn counters with an FM tuner the JBL lacks, but otherwise leaves tuning entirely up to its built-in voicing.
Both share the same party-speaker basics: wheels and a handle for moving them, karaoke-mode microphone input with echo, a guitar input, IPX4 splash resistance, and roughly 12 hours of battery life. The Club 120 adds a removable battery, which the Onn does not have.
The Onn’s own cons are honest about its limits: it isn’t quite as loud as the gen 1 it replaced, and its bass doesn’t reach as deep as the top-ranked speakers in its class, the Club 120 included.
Buy the JBL Partybox Club 120 if you want app-based EQ control, a removable battery, and JBL’s more neutral tuning, and the price gap doesn’t bother you.
Buy the Onn Large Party gen 2 if you want the biggest drivers and loudest sound for the least money and don’t need an app or onboard EQ.
