Short answer: the JBL Partybox 710. It ranks #6 of 12 large party speakers against #10 for the Sony, and it costs $199.99 less, so there isn’t much of a tradeoff to weigh.
Sound quality is the main reason to skip the ULT Tower 10. Our notes put it near the bottom of its class, with bass that isn’t as deep and that drops off more at high volume than even lower-end Partybox speakers. Its one genuine strength is raw loudness: our notes call it louder than JBL’s own Partybox Ultimate. The Partybox 710’s downsides are purely practical: it’s very large and heavy, not a sound quality complaint.
Water resistance and multi-speaker linking split the other way. The Partybox 710 carries an IPX4 splash rating versus no water resistance at all on the ULT Tower 10. The ULT Tower 10 counters with Auracast linking for up to 100 speakers and AAC/LDAC Bluetooth codec support, versus the Partybox 710’s PartyBoost linking (JBL speakers only) and SBC-only codec support.
Everything else matches: both have an app, aux input, karaoke mic input with echo, guitar input, a USB power bank output, and no built-in battery, so both run from AC power only.
Buy the JBL Partybox 710 for better sound quality, splash resistance, and a lower price, unless you specifically need to link with non-JBL speakers.
Buy the Sony ULT Tower 10 if Auracast multi-speaker linking or higher-quality Bluetooth codecs matter more to you than overall sound quality.
