JBL Partybox 330 vs Tronsmart Bang 2 Ultra

What the JBL Partybox 330 does well: A highly complete rolling party speaker: removable battery, telescoping handle and wheels, light show, Auracast, USB-C lossless and optical inputs, plus dual mic/guitar inputs. The tradeoff: It remains very large and heavy, and the sound improvement over the JBL Partybox Stage 320 is modest rather than transformational.

The Tronsmart Bang 2 Ultra is the longer-running, lighter pick. Far more output than the Tronsmart Bang 2, with 320W RMS through a 6.9 inch woofer, two mid tweeters and two tweeters, and a reviewer comparing it with the JBL Boombox 4 preferred it for loudness and bass. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 18 for the JBL Partybox 330. At 23.3 lbs (10.56 kg) it weighs much less than the JBL Partybox 330 at 37.7 lbs (17.1 kg). It is rated IPX6 against IPX4 for the JBL Partybox 330. The catch: No measurements, so its rating is estimated from listening comparisons.

Buy the JBL Partybox 330 at $629.95 for a party speaker, or the Tronsmart Bang 2 Ultra at $349.99 for a boombox speaker instead.

Worth knowing: the Tronsmart Bang 2 Ultra has not been measured yet. Its rating is estimated from related models, with a likely range of 3.3 to 3.9, so treat this verdict as provisional.

JBL Partybox 330 ranking card

Older models: the JBL Partybox Stage 320 (ranked lower, rated 4.6/5), the JBL Partybox 310 (ranked lower, rated 4.5/5) and the JBL Partybox 300 (ranked lower, rated 4.3/5). See every JBL PartyBox generation.

Same family: the JBL Partybox 130 (smaller model, ranked lower, rated 4.4/5) and the JBL Partybox 720 (larger model, rated 4.7/5).

Pros: A highly complete rolling party speaker: removable battery, telescoping handle and wheels, light show, Auracast, USB-C lossless and optical inputs, plus dual mic/guitar inputs. It supplies a little more power than the JBL Partybox 310 and JBL Partybox Stage 320, while reviewers report better midrange clarity than the older JBL Partybox 310 and the same deep party-speaker bass.

Cons: It remains very large and heavy, and the sound improvement over the JBL Partybox Stage 320 is modest rather than transformational. JBL removed the dedicated mic gain/control knobs found on earlier models, a real drawback for frequent karaoke use. Do not upgrade from a JBL Partybox 310 or JBL Partybox Stage 320 just for the higher watt figure.
