Short answer: the JBL Boombox 4 for sound quality, the ION Pathfinder 4 for battery and a charging pad. The JBL has pretty insane output for its size with a 7-band EQ, but it is overpriced, sounds worse than the Boombox 3 out of the box and drops the aux input. The ION runs about 100 hours at low-moderate volume and has a wireless Qi charging pad on top, but shallow bass, heavy weight and a poor water rating hold it back.
Buy the JBL Boombox 4. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the ION Pathfinder 4 is discontinued.
Battery life favors the ION Pathfinder 4: rated for 100 hours against 28 hours for the JBL Boombox 4.
If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Boombox 4 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the ION Pathfinder 4 at IPX5 (water jets).

Older models: the JBL Boombox 3 (ranked lower, rated 3.8/5), the JBL Boombox 2 (ranked lower, rated 3.5/5) and the JBL Boombox (ranked lower, rated 2.9/5).
Pros: Pretty insane output capability for the size. IP68 protection and Auracast pairing with other current JBL speakers. Measured bass extension of 41Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it. Out of the box sounds worse than the Boombox 3. No Aux input.

ION Pathfinder 4: $300 Discontinued eBay
Pros: A feature-heavy 11kg party speaker with claimed 120W output, a very long 100-hour battery rating at moderate volume, FM radio, USB playback, aux and microphone inputs, lights, USB-C charging and a Qi charging pad. It can pair with a second unit for stereo, making it useful for long outdoor events where convenience matters more than fidelity. Measured bass extension of ~62Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Its roughly 62Hz -10dB bass extension is shallow for a speaker this large, so it does not deliver the deep impact of better party-speaker rivals. The heavy enclosure is cumbersome to carry, IPX5 only protects against sprays, and its simple high/low tone controls cannot provide the precision of a full app EQ. Discontinued.
