Short answer: the Aiwa Exos-9. It ranks #8 of 73 boombox speakers by sound quality at $250; the JBL Boombox 4 ranks #17 and costs $549.95, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
What the JBL Boombox 4 gets right: Pretty insane output capability for the size, with 7-band EQ for better tuning than the Boombox 3. Set against that: It’s overpriced for the category, sounds worse than the Boombox 3 out of the box, and drops Aux input entirely.
The case for the Aiwa Exos-9: Still a great sounding speaker even against today’s models. The catch: Features are lacking, generally not recommended anymore, not sold new anymore.
Buy the Aiwa Exos-9. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Boombox 4 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.
If battery life is a priority, the JBL Boombox 4 is rated for 28 hours versus 10 hours for the Aiwa Exos-9.
If water resistance matters to you, the JBL Boombox 4 at IP68 (extended submersion) holds up far better than the Aiwa Exos-9 at no water resistance.

JBL Boombox 4: $549.95 Amazon Bhphotovideo eBay
Pros: Pretty insane output capability for the size.
Cons: Pretty overpriced for the category. Better than the Boombox 3 mostly because there are more 7 EQ bands instead of just 3 and it can be better tuned. Try Oluv’s EQ for it. Out of the box sounds worse than the Boombox 3. No Aux input.
