The ZE21’s own pros admit it isn’t the current top of its own family, describing great value for bass, play time, and max volume in the boombox class, though the Zealot ZE41 now beats it out. Its remaining complaints are a rolled-off top end and a bass EQ our notes call bloated and muddy.
The Boombox 3 wins on real features the Zealot doesn’t have. IP67 water resistance, a genuine power bank function, and PartyBoost pairing with up to 100 compatible JBL speakers, against dips in its own mid bass and a peak at 700Hz.
Buy the ZE21 for the better ranking and the lower price. Buy the Boombox 3 for the water resistance and JBL’s pairing ecosystem.
If battery life is a priority, the Zealot ZE21 is rated for 40 hours versus 24 hours for the JBL Boombox 3.
