Short answer: it’s close, and the Stormbox Blast 2 is the cheaper option. The Boombox 3 ranks #21 of 71 boombox speakers at $399; the Blast 2 ranks #22 at $300, $99 less for nearly the same placement.
Neither is Tribit’s best work in this class. Our own notes are blunt about the Blast 2: nowhere near as neutral and balanced as the original Stormbox Blast, and a big downgrade unless max volume is the only priority. It sounds muddy with boosted bass at both ends and a boosted treble around 6kHz.
The Boombox 3 has its own real weaknesses. Dips in the mid bass that leave the low end undefined, a bass boost, and a peak at 700Hz that our notes say keep it from matching the mids and treble of the original Stormbox Blast.
Buy the Boombox 3 for JBL’s water resistance, power bank function, and PartyBoost ecosystem. Buy the Stormbox Blast 2 to save $99, though check the original Blast first since our own notes prefer it to both.

Tribit Stormbox Blast 2: $300 Amazon
Pros: Pretty deep bass.
Cons: Sounds quite muddy with the boosted lower and upper bass. Boosted treble around 6khz. Xbass mode makes it sound even more muddy. Nowhere near as neutral and balanced as the first Blast and a big downgrade unless you only care about max volume
