Short answer: the Harman Kardon Luna 2. It ranks #25 of 177 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 4.1/5, at $199.95. The W-King D8 Mini ranks #135, rated 2.6/5, at $49.99, $149.96 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.
The Harman Kardon Luna 2 is the better-sounding, lighter pick. A stylish waterproof speaker with clear, spacious mids, tight bass that stays clean at volume, and stereo pairing with a second unit. At 1.6 lbs (735 g) it weighs much less than the W-King D8 Mini at 2.8 lbs (1.26 kg). Watch for: Treble can sound bright and edgy, and it loses more output off-axis than some rivals.
The W-King D8 Mini is the longer-running option. An inexpensive water resistant stereo speaker with indoor and outdoor sound modes and a long rated battery. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 12 for the Harman Kardon Luna 2. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Harman Kardon Luna 2 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Harman Kardon Luna 2. The catch: Recessed midrange, harsh treble.
Buy the Harman Kardon Luna 2. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $149.96 saving on the W-King D8 Mini is not enough to make up the difference.
