The Go + Play 3 reaches deeper bass and adds features the Go + Play 2 never had. Its measured bass extension goes to 35Hz versus the Go + Play 2’s 40Hz, described by reviewers as the deepest bass of any speaker in this size class. It also picks up a companion app with EQ, AAC codec support, TWS pairing, and a power bank function, none of which the Go + Play 2 offers. The tradeoff is volume: the Go + Play 3 is described as just a little over half as loud as the higher-rated boomboxes in its class.

What the Go + Play 2 still has: Wireless Dual Sound party-mode pairing, which the Go + Play 3 dropped entirely, and a warm sound with boosted bass that reviewers still describe favorably on its own terms.

One note: the Harman Kardon Go + Play 2 is discontinued, but it still ranks #20 of 75 boombox speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.

Pros: Warm sound with boosted bass. Deepest bass out of any speaker in this size. Sound is more natural than the Go + Play2. Measured bass extension of 35Hz (-10dB).

Cons: Just a little over half as loud as the higher rated boomboxes. Only 8 hours of battery at medium volume. No water rating.

Setup: Use the hidden EQ modes to adjust the bass up when outside and down when inside. To adjust bass, quickly press the bluetooth and volume down buttons together, the number of light flashes tell you what mode you’re in. To adjust treble, quickly press the volume up and phone buttons at the same time, the number of yellow flashes on the light tell you what mode you are in.
