Genelec 8361A vs Kali Audio IN-8 V2

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the Genelec 8361A for scale and coaxial directivity, the Kali Audio IN-8 V2 for placement flexibility. The 8361A’s three-way coaxial design adds two 10” front-loaded woofers, but it costs about $10,900 and GLM room correction is extra. The IN-8 V2’s front-ported coaxial cabinet allows near-wall placement without port noise, though it sounds notably forward in the 4-5kHz range on axis and wants about 10° of toe-out plus EQ.

Genelec 8361A vs Kali Audio IN-8 V2

What the Genelec 8361A gets right: Three-way coaxial design: 5” mid-range with an inset 1” metal dome tweeter, flanked symmetrically above and below by two 10” front-loaded woofers. The catch: $10,900 per pair; Genelec’s GLM room-correction add-on (measurement mic plus software) is another ~$450 and wasn’t used in this review.

Buy the Genelec 8361A if sound quality is the priority over the price, or the Kali Audio IN-8 V2 if the price is the priority over sound quality.

Genelec 8361A ranking card

Pros: The coaxial design combines consistent imaging with substantial output capability. ASR measured a 1.8dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz, 33.7Hz -3dB extension and a 8.08 ideal-subwoofer score. Low distortion and restrained compression support its use at greater distances than smaller nearfield monitors. Woofers above and below the coaxial driver give nearly identical vertical response whether you sit or stand. Measured bass extension of 34Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Its larger size buys headroom, not uniformly better tonality than the smaller Ones models. Some lower-midrange unevenness remains, and listening angle can affect perceived treble balance. The cabinets are very heavy and expensive; GLM setup and suitable stands need to be budgeted separately.

Kali Audio IN-8 V2: $998 per pair Amazon eBay

Kali Audio IN-8 V2 ranking card

Pros: The IN-8 V2’s coaxial midrange/tweeter supports coherent imaging, and low distortion at ordinary levels complements its 7.30 ideal-subwoofer score. Measured -3dB extension of 45.4Hz provides useful bass; boundary settings assist placement. The front port allows placement near a wall without port noise problems. Measured bass extension of 44Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 89dB.

Cons: The measured 3.0dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz includes unevenness that can make some vocals sound forward. Bass and limiter behavior constrain high-level playback. These measurements apply to the V2, not the first-generation IN-8. On-axis, the 4 to 5kHz range sounds forward; Kali recommends about 10° of toe-out, and some EQ helps.
