Erin’s Audio Corner measured both, and the more expensive DBR62 actually scores better in the raw numbers. It posts a measured preference score of 5.3, with on-axis linearity within about 2.5dB, and Erin recommends it without reservation at its price. Its radiation pattern is also wider, holding about plus or minus 70 degrees horizontally before the tweeter starts beaming, against the DB63’s plus or minus 60 degrees, and it stays listenable even toed out 30 degrees from the listener.
The DB63 answers back with gentler bass rolloff and a lower price. Its measured -3dB point sits at 76Hz against the DBR62’s deeper-reaching 53Hz, which sounds like a disadvantage on paper but actually means less boominess when placed close to a wall, useful in smaller rooms. Erin also notes the DB63 is a clear improvement over its sibling, the DB62, which has an uncorrectable sibilance issue in its crossover, and provides a specific EQ filter set that smooths out the DB63’s remaining deviations.
Both need a subwoofer for real low end, since neither speaker’s -10dB extension reaches much past 40Hz on its own, and both share the same 6.5 inch aramid fiber woofer and 1 inch soft dome tweeter as their basic driver layout.
Buy the ELAC DB63 if budget and gentle near-wall bass behavior matter most to you, and you’re willing to apply Erin’s published EQ correction for the smoothest result.
Buy the ELAC DBR62 if you want the more forgiving speaker for off-axis seating and imperfect toe-in, and don’t mind paying more or pairing it with a 4-ohm-capable amplifier.
