The M60 is the more accurate desktop pair. Erin’s Audio Corner measured an even midrange, spanning 2.8dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, with a preference score of 4.60. It has USB-C, an aux input, LDAC Bluetooth and angled stands in the box. Its 3-inch woofers stop around 67Hz (-3dB) and it compresses when pushed, so it belongs on a desk rather than across a room.
The R1280DB is the larger, more flexible bookshelf pair. Its 4-inch woofers reach slightly lower, to about 63Hz (-3dB), and it adds optical and coaxial digital inputs, a remote and bass and treble knobs, which makes it easy to hook up to a TV. It is still a compact speaker that suits near-field listening more than high-volume playback.
Buy the Edifier M60. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $10 you would save on the Edifier R1280DB does not close the gap.
