Edifier M90 vs Edifier S1000MKII

Last updated: October 11, 2026

Short answer: the Edifier M90. Both are rated 3.3/5 for sound quality (#23 and #81 of 47 powered bookshelf speakers), and the Edifier M90 costs $369.99 against $499.99 for the Edifier S1000MKII, and with sound quality even, the cheaper one is the better buy.

Edifier M90 vs Edifier S1000MKII

What the Edifier M90 does well: A bi-amped two-way pair with a 4” long-throw aluminum mid-bass driver and a 1” silk dome tweeter per side, driven by 100W RMS in total (35W to each woofer, 15W to each tweeter). It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Edifier S1000MKII lacks. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Edifier S1000MKII lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Edifier S1000MKII lacks. Watch for: No independent anechoic or Spinorama measurements have been published yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers.

The case for the Edifier S1000MKII: A self-powered stereo pair with optical, coaxial and analog inputs, plus high-resolution digital support, makes source switching unusually simple. The catch: High-resolution input support is not a guarantee of perfect tuning, and the fixed internal amplification prevents the gradual upgrades possible with separates.

Buy the Edifier M90. Both are rated the same for sound quality, and it costs $130 less than the Edifier S1000MKII.

Worth knowing: the Edifier M90 has not been measured yet. Its rating is estimated from related models, with a likely range of 3.1 to 3.5, so treat this verdict as provisional.

Edifier M90 ranking card

Same family: the Edifier M60 (smaller bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4/5).

Pros: A bi-amped two-way pair with a 4” long-throw aluminum mid-bass driver and a 1” silk dome tweeter per side, driven by 100W RMS in total (35W to each woofer, 15W to each tweeter). The most connected Edifier desktop pair yet: HDMI eARC with TV remote control over CEC, optical, USB-C, aux and Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC, plus a subwoofer output for a 2.1 setup. Three sound presets on the included 2.4GHz remote and custom EQ in the Edifier ConneX app. Edifier rates the response down to 50Hz, against 55Hz for the smaller Edifier M60.

Cons: No independent anechoic or Spinorama measurements have been published yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared with ranked speakers. The only measurement so far is an in-room reading at the listening position (Pragmatic Audio), which showed bass reaching about 50 to 60Hz with a DSP limiter controlling the roll-off. A 4” woofer still needs a subwoofer for deep bass. It costs close to twice as much as the Edifier M60, and TechRadar found its output falls short of some rivals at the price.

Edifier S1000MKII ranking card

Pros: A self-powered stereo pair with optical, coaxial and analog inputs, plus high-resolution digital support, makes source switching unusually simple. Consumer Reports rates its sound accurate and detailed, so it is a strong one-box alternative to separate amplifier-and-speaker systems for nearfield or small-room listening.

Cons: High-resolution input support is not a guarantee of perfect tuning, and the fixed internal amplification prevents the gradual upgrades possible with separates. These are mains-powered speakers rather than portable wireless speakers, and their size and left/right cabling need a planned desktop or stand setup. No independent measurements exist; reviews are limited to informal listening comparisons.
