The M60 measures more accurately despite being the smaller, cheaper-feeling desktop speaker. Erin’s Klippel data shows its midrange spans just 2.8dB from 300Hz to 5kHz with broad horizontal coverage, and its predicted preference scores of 3.69 standalone and 6.42 with a subwoofer beat the Eris E5 XT’s 2.88 and 5.30. Audio Science Review’s testing of the Eris E5 XT found bass and treble emphasis with a recessed crossover region, an imbalance that its otherwise consistent directivity carries into room reflections rather than correcting, and distortion testing showed problems across a broad range when pushed to 96dB.
The M60 isn’t tonally perfect either: its on-axis response rises by about 0.57dB per octave, giving it a brighter character in the treble that the Eris E5 XT’s own review doesn’t share in the same way.
What the Eris E5 XT adds: balanced XLR and TRS inputs plus RCA, a much larger 5-inch woofer, and considerably more rated output at 80W per speaker against the M60’s 33W per speaker, all of which matter more in a larger room or a proper studio setup.
What the M60 adds: Bluetooth with LDAC support, USB-C input, a companion app, and included angled stands built for near-field desktop use, none of which the Eris E5 XT has.
Buy the M60 for more accurate near-field desktop listening and simpler wireless connectivity.
Buy the Eris E5 XT if you need XLR/TRS studio inputs, more output headroom, or you’re setting speakers up on stands rather than a desk.

USB-C, auxiliary input, Bluetooth and included angled stands make it easy to integrate into a small desk setup. Measured bass extension of 67Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 87.5dB.
Cons: The on-axis response rises by about 0.57dB per octave, so the tonal balance becomes brighter toward the treble. Measured -3dB bass extension is about 70Hz; it cannot reproduce deep bass at full level. Sitting below the tweeter axis worsens the crossover-region response. Limiting and compression constrain louder playback, so use it nearfield rather than expecting room-filling output.

Pros: ASR’s measurements show reasonably consistent directivity through the crossover, so EQ changes are more likely to benefit both direct and reflected sound. Bass reaches -3dB around 56Hz. A standalone preference score of 2.88 rises to 5.30 with an ideal subwoofer, indicating useful bass reach but only moderate native tonal performance. Measured bass extension of 85Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The response has bass and treble emphasis with a recessed crossover region; smooth directivity carries that imbalance into room reflections rather than fixing it. Existing distortion testing shows problems across a broad range when pushed to 96dB. Tone correction and moderate levels help, but it is not a reference-flat monitor out of the box.
