The Authentics 200 punches well above its size. It measured about 113dB at 1kHz on max volume, matching its larger Authentics 300 sibling despite the smaller cabinet, and reviewers rate its balanced sound close to that pricier model too. It also adds Wi-Fi streaming with simultaneous Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant support, a rare combination at this size, plus AirPlay, Chromecast, and Spotify Connect. The tradeoff is that its own notes describe bass that isn’t as deep as rivals, no IP rating, no TWS pairing, and limited output compared to larger speakers.
The D12 is a straightforward, wired value pick. Its own notes call it a very good value speaker in this desktop category, built around a traditional stereo pair with two 4-inch woofers and two silk dome tweeters per notes, RCA and aux inputs, and bass/treble controls. It has no companion app and no Wi-Fi at all, so it’s a simpler, more old-school desktop setup than the Authentics 200.
Everything else favors the Authentics 200 on paper: a companion app, Wi-Fi multi-room mode, and a down-firing passive radiator, while the D12 counters only with a subwoofer line out and a dedicated RCA input the Authentics 200 lacks.
Buy the JBL Authentics 200 for meaningfully better sound quality, Wi-Fi streaming, and dual voice assistant support, if the higher price is worth it to you.
Buy the Edifier D12 if you want a simple, wired stereo pair at a fraction of the price and don’t need Wi-Fi or app control.
