The D12 has a genuine, specific strength. Our notes call it a very good value speaker in its category, with a subwoofer line-out for anyone who wants to add low end later, something the R1700BT doesn’t offer.
The R1700BT has no listed pros, and its cons describe a more V-shaped tuning that, like most of the Edifier lineup, isn’t quite as neutral as the Edifier MR4.
Buy the D12 for the stronger value case and the expansion option. Buy the R1700BT only if its specific cabinet size or finish fits your space better than the D12’s.
