The D12 has a genuine, specific strength. Our notes call it a very good value speaker in its category, with a subwoofer line-out for anyone who wants to add low end later, something the R1700BT doesn’t offer.
The R1700BT has no listed pros, and its cons describe a more V-shaped tuning that, like most of the Edifier lineup, isn’t quite as neutral as the [Edifier MR4](/powered/speakers/Edifier-MR4/).
Buy the D12 for the stronger value case and the expansion option. Buy the R1700BT only if its specific cabinet size or finish fits your space better than the D12’s.
