Short answer: the EcoXGear Defender, if you are buying new. The Soundcore Rave Party 2 ranks higher than it (#64 vs #84 of 112 boombox speakers, 3.1/5 vs 2.5/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the EcoXGear Defender is still sold new at $299.99.
The EcoXGear Defender is the longer-running, tougher choice. A rugged, floating waterproof speaker that gets very loud for its size, with a flashlight, bottle opener and power bank. It is rated for 25 hours of battery against 16 for the Soundcore Rave Party 2. It is rated IP67 against IPX4 for the Soundcore Rave Party 2. The catch: Its single front-facing driver layout has narrow dispersion: clarity and detail drop noticeably when you move off-axis, and the soundstage is limited.
The Soundcore Rave Party 2 is the better-sounding option. A stereo party speaker with LED lights, a karaoke mic input and linking for up to 100 speakers. It links with other speakers (PartyCast 2.0 up to 100 speakers), which the EcoXGear Defender cannot. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the EcoXGear Defender. The tradeoff: Only IPX4 splash resistance, and bass extension seems limited.
Buy the EcoXGear Defender if you want one new; the Soundcore Rave Party 2 is discontinued, so only look for it used.
