The SoundLink Max backs up its ranking with real durability and battery. Our notes cite an IP67 rating, dustproof and waterproof to 1 meter, plus a 20 hour rated battery that real-world testing found stretches past 43 hours. It has a documented tuning issue, though: a big peak in the upper bass, a dipped midrange, and several peaks and dips above that, along with distortion above 80% volume and a battery that self-drains about 20% a week.
The Move 2 trades output for a smoother, if muted, sound. Our notes call it warm sounding with somewhat rolled off treble, an improvement in midrange clarity over the original Move, but flag it as not very loud, with a caveat that the same volume-related issues from the first Move may carry over.
A few practical differences stand out: the Move 2 has Wifi and a built-in microphone that the SoundLink Max lacks, while the SoundLink Max has an app-based EQ the Move 2 does not offer, and its IP67 rating beats the Move 2’s IP56.
Buy the Bose SoundLink Max for better measured sound, real water resistance, and a lower price.
Buy the Sonos Move 2 only if Wifi multi-room integration with the Sonos app ecosystem matters more to you than raw loudness or price.

Sturdy carry handle. The aux input has lower latency (about 33ms) than most Bluetooth connections. Measured bass extension of 48Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Big peak in the upper bass, dipped midrange and lots of peaks and dips above the midrange. Bass not as deep as a Boom 2. Gets distorted above 80%. Self drains the battery about 20% a week.

Pros: Warm sounding with somewhat rolled off treble. Slightly better midrange clarity than the Move 1.
