Short answer: the Bose SoundLink Max. It ranks #17 of 105 large speakers by sound quality, rated 4.3/5, at $399. The Klipsch Detroit ranks #76, rated 3.1/5, at $235.99, $163.01 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.
The SoundLink Max has the deeper, richer bass. Two 2.5-inch drivers and a tweeter reach about 48Hz before falling 10dB, it lasted over 43 hours in real-world battery testing, and its aux input has low latency. It is IP67 and charges a phone over USB-C. Its upper bass peaks and its midrange dips, and it distorts above about 80 percent volume.
The Detroit is the true stereo option. Two 3-inch woofers and two 1-inch tweeters play left and right with good detail, it claims 20 hours of battery, and it is IP67 with USB-C fast charging and Broadcast Mode linking. Its upper bass is oddly boosted, its lower treble harsh, and Klipsch rates it at only 93dB.
Buy the Bose SoundLink Max. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $163.01 with the Klipsch Detroit does not make up for the sound-quality gap.

Pros: IP67 rated: dustproof and waterproof to 1m. Up to 20 hour battery; real-world testing found 43+ hours. Deep, rich bass with neutral tuning, app EQ. USB-C doubles as device charger. Sturdy carry handle. The aux input has lower latency (about 33ms) than most Bluetooth connections. Measured bass extension of 48Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Big peak in the upper bass, dipped midrange and lots of peaks and dips above the midrange. Bass not as deep as a Soundcore Boom 2. Gets distorted above 80%. Self drains the battery about 20% a week.

Pros: Dual 1” tweeters + 3” woofers deliver excellent sound detail and robust bass. IP67 dust/waterproof rating submersible 1m for 30 min. 20-hour battery life at moderate volume (12-15 hours at high volume). USB-C fast-charge in 2 hours with two-way power for device charging. Measured bass extension of ~55Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Weird boosted upper bass, bass not very deep. Boosted lower treble, somewhat harsh sounding like most other Klipsch speakers. Not very loud.
