Short answer: the Bose SoundLink Max. It ranks #17 of 78 large speakers by sound quality at $399; the Devialet Mania ranks #40 and costs $899, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
What the Bose SoundLink Max offers: IP67 rated - dustproof and waterproof to 1m. Up to 20 hour battery; real-world testing found 43+ hours. Deep, rich bass with neutral tuning, app EQ. USB-C doubles as device charger. Sturdy carry handle. Watch for: Big peak in the upper bass, dipped midrange and lots of peaks and dips above the midrange. Bass not as deep as a Boom 2. Gets distorted above 80%. Self drains the battery about 20% a week.
What the Devialet Mania offers: Small, nice looking. Watch for: Not very loud. Extremely high price. Bass boosted. Tweeters are not aimed at you and there’s a huge treble rolloff off-axis as compared to the Beoplay P6 in the comparison video. Only 10 hours of battery. Oluv didn’t like the upper mids or treble (mentioned on his Patreon)
Buy the Bose SoundLink Max. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Devialet Mania and costs less, so the other one has nothing left to offer.
If battery life is a priority, the Bose SoundLink Max is rated for 20 hours versus 10 hours for the Devialet Mania.
If water resistance matters to you, the Bose SoundLink Max at IP67 (brief submersion) holds up far better than the Devialet Mania at IPX4 (splashing).
