The Bose Soundlink Flex is the better-sounding, louder choice. IP67 rated; rugged enough to survive drops from several feet and floats. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 96dB at full volume, against 92dB for the JBL Flip 5. The tradeoff: Warm sounding with overly boosted bass which drowns out midrange detail.
What the JBL Flip 5 does well: Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Bose Soundlink Flex lacks. Watch for: Boosted upper bass.
Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the JBL Flip 5 is discontinued.
