The Bogasing M5 is the louder, longer-running pick. Compact enough for a backpack side pocket at under 1.7 lbs (771 g). Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 96dB at full volume, against 92dB for the JBL Flip 5. It is rated for 30 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Flip 5. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Flip 5 lacks. Watch for: Front/rear driver configuration.
The JBL Flip 5 is the lighter choice. Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. At 1.2 lbs (540 g) it weighs noticeably less than the Bogasing M5 at 1.7 lbs (757 g). The tradeoff: Boosted upper bass.
Buy the Bogasing M5. It is rated higher for sound quality; the JBL Flip 5 is no longer sold new.

Cons: Front/rear driver configuration. Use bass mode for the flattest response. Sounds thin in the midrange. Hot treble and rolled off bass in default mode. Treble a bit rolled off in bass mode.
