The case for the B&O Beosound 2: A beautifully made, compact Wi-Fi speaker with omnidirectional playback, Chromecast, AirPlay, Bluetooth with AAC/aptX, optical and aux inputs, app EQ, voice control and Beolink multiroom. It supports aptX Bluetooth, which the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen lacks. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen. The tradeoff: Its bass-forward balance can recess the mids, and its 94dB maximum level is modest for a speaker intended to fill larger spaces.
What the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen does well: Digital Trends’ review found it responds quickly, automatically raises music and response volume over background noise, and is built from recycled plastic. The catch: Digital Trends’ main complaint was that maximum volume could be louder, and RTINGS’ independent review agrees, naming it their one real weakness.
Buy the B&O Beosound 2. It is rated higher for sound quality; the Google Nest Mini 2nd Gen is no longer sold new.
