The Ascend Acoustics Sierra-LX is the more accurate, deeper-bass option. Very neutral, flat frequency response: within about plus or minus 1.5dB ignoring one narrow dip. Its measured preference score, a predictor of how neutral it sounds, is 6.63 against 5.44 for the ELAC Uni-Fi Reference UBR62. Its bass reaches about 47Hz before falling 3dB, against 58.6Hz for the ELAC Uni-Fi Reference UBR62. Watch for: Very low sensitivity at about 81dB, so it needs a genuinely powerful amplifier to reach normal listening levels.
The case for the ELAC Uni-Fi Reference UBR62: True three-way stand-mount using a 1-inch tweeter concentrically mounted in a 4-inch aluminum midrange plus a dedicated 6.5-inch aluminum woofer. The catch: Erin measured very low 83dB/2.83V/1m sensitivity; his 110W Parasound was insufficient for the high-level test and the more powerful HINT 6 was needed.
Buy the Ascend Acoustics Sierra-LX. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $299 saving on the ELAC Uni-Fi Reference UBR62 is not enough to make up the difference.

Frequency Response Compared
