The D3v’s ribbon tweeter and side passive radiators deliver unusually linear midrange for its size. Erin’s Audio Corner measured a span of just 1.7dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, with bass reaching -3dB around 51Hz thanks to those passive radiators, deeper than rivals like the Genelec 8010A. Its own notes flag a rising upper-frequency balance and some vertical crossover interference that keep it from being neutral at every angle, so the tweeters need to be aimed at ear height. More importantly, its built-in limiter reduces both bass and midrange output as volume rises, with usable maximum output around 89dB to 90dB at 1m: deep bass at moderate volume doesn’t mean it can play loud.
The iLoud Micro Monitor trades some tonal accuracy for genuinely substantial bass in a tiny package. Independent quasi-anechoic measurements found broad, reasonably consistent horizontal radiation and useful tolerance above the tweeter axis, which helps since these often sit below ear height on a desk. The tradeoff, per that same measurement data, is some bass emphasis and upper-treble rolloff rather than strict neutrality. Like the D3v, its small drivers mean deep bass at moderate volume doesn’t translate into loud-playback headroom.
The connectivity differs meaningfully: the D3v uses USB-C and balanced 1/4-inch TRS inputs built for a modern desktop interface, while the iLoud Micro Monitor sticks to RCA and aux but adds Bluetooth A2DP, which the D3v lacks entirely.
Buy the ADAM Audio D3v for more linear midrange measurements and modern USB-C/balanced connectivity, and keep your listening volume moderate given its limiter.
