The measured midrange linearity is where the D3v pulls ahead. Erin’s Klippel data on the D3v spans just 1.7dB from 300Hz to 5kHz, while the MR3 measures a wider 4.5dB span over the same range with a listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.538. Both speakers use a limiter that pulls back bass and midrange output as volume climbs, but the D3v’s usable maximum sits around 89 to 90dB at 1 meter in compression testing versus about 86 to 87dB for the MR3, and the D3v’s own spec table lists a max SPL of 102dB against 93dB for the MR3.
Bass extension favors the D3v too. Its side passive radiators get it to -3dB at about 50Hz, compared to about 70Hz for the MR3, a difference substantial enough that Erin’s review notes it beats even larger standmounts like the Genelec 8010A on this measurement. Predicted preference scores back this up: 5.37 standalone for the D3v versus 3.91 for the MR3, with the gap persisting even paired with an ideal subwoofer (7.59 versus 6.53).
The MR3 counters with practicality. It includes Bluetooth 5.4 plus aux and RCA inputs, where the D3v is wired-only via USB-C and balanced TRS; both have balanced TRS and a headphone output. It also offers app-based EQ and physical bass/treble controls for adjustment, and Erin’s measurements note its bass reaches farther than the similarly priced Fostex PM03’s.
Buy the ADAM Audio D3v for meaningfully better measured accuracy, deeper bass, and higher output headroom, if you’re working at a desk with wired sources.
Buy the Edifier MR3 if Bluetooth connectivity and a lower price matter more than closing the measured gap in linearity and bass extension.
