#40 Monitor Audio Apex A10: $849 each Crutchfield eBay

Pros: Compact aluminum-cabinet speaker with a 5.5-inch RST woofer, C-CAM gold-dome tweeter, front HiVe II port and included wall bracket. ASR data shows good 0.153 on-axis smoothness and a 5.13 preference score when crossed to a subwoofer.

Cons: Measured bass extension is only 79Hz and the raw preference score drops to 1.95 without a subwoofer, making one effectively mandatory. The +0.53dB/octave slope is bright-leaning, predicted in-room smoothness is poor at 0.161, and $1,698/pair is expensive for the measured performance.

How it compares: Just above it: NHT SuperZero 2.1 - $714 cheaper, 1Hz lower bass extension (-3dB). Just below it: ELAC Debut 2.0 B5.2 - $520 cheaper, 4Hz lower bass extension (-3dB).
