#19 SONBS SD-10E: $100 each Passive eBay
Pros: A low-cost passive 10” two-way for installs, stage lip fill and under-balcony coverage, with 96dB sensitivity and 350W rated power handling. SONBS’s measurements show reasonably even off-axis behavior (0.64 predicted in-room smoothness) across 80 x 80 degree coverage, and the score rises from 2.71 to 6.07 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 106Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Bass rolls off early, down 3dB at 106Hz and about 10dB at 68.9Hz, so it needs a subwoofer for full-range music. The measurements come from SONBS and have not been independently verified. It is passive and needs an external amplifier, and it has no US retailer, so it is bought through SONBS directly.

Frequency Response
How the SONBS SD-10E measures across the audible range. A flatter listening window (the sound arriving straight at you) is more neutral: peaks sound forward or harsh, dips sound recessed. The estimated in-room response adds what a typical room does, and there a gentle, even tilt down toward the treble is ideal. Both curves are shifted so their 300 Hz to 3 kHz average sits at 0 dB.
Measurement data: spinorama.org, measured by the manufacturer.
EQ for a Neutral Response
No EQ preset: the best simple EQ we can fit to these measurements improves the predicted preference score by less than 0.2. The listening window is already close to flat, and what holds the score back, such as narrow ripple in the response or uneven output off-axis, is not something EQ can fix without making it worse elsewhere.
