Brand: DAS Audio
#21 DAS Audio ARTEC 510A: $2,902 eBay
Same family: the DAS Audio ARTEC 506A (smaller model, rated 4/5), the DAS Audio ARTEC 526A (smaller model, rated 4.1/5) and the DAS Audio ARTEC 508A (smaller model, rated 3.8/5).
Pros: A powered 10 inch installation speaker with a wide pattern that spreads sound evenly across seated rooms, in a birch plywood cabinet. The wide 110° x 50° pattern spreads sound evenly across seated rooms, and a 720W amplifier reaches 128dB in a birch plywood cabinet. Vendor Spinorama data gives preference scores of 3.21 standalone and 6.35 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 88Hz (-3dB).
Cons: Listening-window narrow-band deviation is 0.485 and predicted in-room smoothness is 0.507, less even than the best 10-inch boxes. Measured bass reaches about 88Hz (-3dB), so a subwoofer is needed for music, and installation styling makes it costly next to touring boxes.
