#214 Meze Poet: $2,000.00 Amazon $2,000.00 eBay

Pros: At 55 ohms and 101 dB SPL/mW this open planar plays at satisfying levels from most desktop sources without needing a powerful amp. Low mids sit 1.1 dB above target and the 1 to 3 kHz range is only 1.5 dB down, giving a warm, rich tone with full bodied voices. It carries a higher rating than the Denon AH-D9200.

Cons: A 9.6 dB dip near 9.5 kHz and a 3.7 dB shortfall in presence dull cymbal attack and vocal articulation, while a 6.0 dB peak near 11.9 kHz adds a thin glint above that, leaving a preference score of 72.1. Sub-bass sits 4.7 dB below target, so the deepest bass lacks rumble, and at 350 g it is a substantial headphone that leaks sound with no isolation. The ZMF Ori 3.0 rates higher at a similar price.
