#22 Dan Clark Audio Aeon Core: $899.99 Moon Audio $899.99 Headphones.com $899.99 eBay
Pros: A closed-back planar magnetic headphone with a preference score of 90, unusually high for a closed design, measured by two reviewers. Sub bass reaches to 20 Hz and bass through presence stays within about 0.7 dB of target, so it sounds open and natural while blocking outside noise.
Cons: Treble is uneven, with an 8 dB dip near 10 kHz between a 4.4 dB peak near 5.6 kHz and a 3.1 dB peak near 11.2 kHz. Low 97 dB/mW sensitivity benefits from a headphone amp, and the Dan Clark Audio Noire X rates higher for slightly less. See headphone amps and DACs with enough power to drive it.

Frequency Response
How the Dan Clark Audio Aeon Core measures across the audible range, against the Harman over-ear target that most listeners prefer in blind tests. Where the line sits above the target that range sounds louder (more bass, brighter treble), below it quieter. The curve is the average of 2 independent measurements, and both lines are shifted so their 500 Hz to 2 kHz average sits at 0 dB.
Measurement data: the average of 2 independent measurements from the squig.link databases of aden and kr0mka. Thanks to each of them for publishing their work.
