Zealot S95 vs ION Pathfinder 280

Last updated: September 16, 2026

Short answer: the Zealot S95. It ranks #26 of 75 boombox speakers by sound quality at $157.41; the ION Pathfinder 280 ranks #68 and costs $169.99, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff.

Zealot S95 vs ION Pathfinder 280

What the Zealot S95 offers: A good value for the boombox class. Appears to be the same internals as the ZE01. Bigger case and goes deeper than the ZE01 Watch for: A little rolled off up top and not that balanced through the rest of the range. Clarity isn’t as good as better speakers.

What the ION Pathfinder 280 offers: A practical all-day event speaker with an exceptionally long claimed 68-hour battery, wheels, telescoping handle, FM radio, lighting and a full graphic EQ/presets. RTINGS finds it gets loud with relatively little compression, and its wide dispersion makes it a useful choice for outdoor background music or casual gatherings. Watch for: Out of the box, the midrange and treble are uneven enough to sound alternately honky and dull, and the bass does not extend as deeply as better party speakers. It is heavy, only IPX5 splash-resistant, and cannot produce a true stereo image from one cabinet. Use the EQ before judging its sound.

Buy the Zealot S95. It ranks higher for sound quality than the ION Pathfinder 280 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

The ION Pathfinder 280 is not a sound-quality pick. It sits near the bottom of the 75 boombox speakers; there are better options higher up.

There is a real battery-life gap here: the ION Pathfinder 280 is rated for 100 hours, the Zealot S95 only 12 hours.
